The UMBC campus is located on the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. corridor, providing easy access to both of these major metropolitan centers, and is only a ten-minute drive or shuttle from BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport. UMBC Event & Conference Services provides a wide variety of venue spaces, resources, and services to accommodate youth and adult groups, athletic summer camps, educational groups, and corporate/organizational events.

 

UMBC offers suite-style residence halls and apartments for overnight accommodations with individually controlled heat and air-conditioning, high-speed internet, and free parking for our overnight summer conference visitors. In addition, you can find a traditional dining hall with numerous food concepts and the ability to accommodate dietary restrictions and cultural dining needs, as well as a full-service catering option. The Commons

The Commons is an approximately 140,000 square foot facility that features six traditional meeting rooms, a food court, sit-down restaurant, several performance spaces and a game room for recreation. High-speed, free public Wi-FI makes it easy to be productive and communicate with family, colleagues, and friends during your visit.

True Grit's at UMBC offers all-you-care-to-eat dining conveniently situated among the residential halls, featuring rotating hot bar menus alongside daily options like salad, pizza, made-to-order entrees, and sandwiches. Catering to diverse dietary needs, it provides Kosher, Halal, Vegan, and Vegetarian choices. The University Center offers a full-service Starbucks and Chick-fil-A restaurant, conveniently located in the heart of our academic corridor and in the same building as our Ballroom and University Center meeting spaces.

The Commons boasts multiple dining options across three floors, featuring internal brands like Wild Greens for wraps and salads, as well as national brands like Halal Shack and Dunkin'. With offerings catering to all tastes, guests can enjoy grab-and-go options at both the University Yum Shoppe and The Commons Market.

UMBC Residential Life

UMBC offers an eye-catching campus with six traditional halls and four apartment communities equipped with free Wi-Fi, laundry facilities, vending machines, lounges, front desk assistance and on-campus catering. Suite-style rooms are provided with semi-private bathrooms. Communities are a short, comfortable walk from classrooms, labs, meeting spaces, athletic center, and more. Free parking is offered to summer overnight guests!

Residential Life can accommodate approximately 3,000 summer conference guests at a given time in our suite-style halls and apartment communities. PALS Programs

PALS Programs

We selected UMBC based on a number of factors including faculty and student participation. I have chaired local arrangements for a number of conferences and this was excellent, exceeding the service at many conference hotels. An added benefit to UMBC is the AV system has multiple large screen monitors in the rooms and the audio is high quality. This was no additional cost compared to being a significant cost at conference hotels. Likewise, there were no problems with the guest wireless, which also was available at no charge. We had 2 housekeeping staff for the day who kept the rooms clean; something seldom noticed when it goes right and always when it does not. We used the on site catering, Chartwells, and that was another very good choice. Buffet breakfast and lunch were very good food quality and the food items were maintained so the end of the line had fresh items available. The all day beverage service from 8:00AM to 3:30PM was well maintained. Finally, we held our after conference appreciation dinner at True Grit at UMBC. The dinner cost was a fraction of what a typical restaurant would have charged and the core committee and volunteers were able to walk over. The planning with both UMBC Facility Rental and Chartwells was smooth and the staff was pleasant to work with. The conference cost was what was planned in the estimates with no unexpected add ons.

Certified One-Stop Shop

UMBC Event & Conference Services is certified by the Association of College Conference Event Directors, International (ACCED-I) as a "One-Stop Shop."  This means that our dedicated adivsor will serve as your primary point-of-contact for all of your event and conference planning needs.  We will coordinate resources and personnel across our wide variety of services, including housing, audio-visiual technical support, transportation, security, dining, recreation, and more.  You have one point of contact and one consolidated bill to pay at the end of your stay with us.   

We aim to achieve a consistently high-level service experience for our cleints through open communication, our willingness to serve, and our passion for success.
